Court-related services at First Thought Therapy are structured processes designed to help families navigate custody, co-parenting, reunification, and other court-involved concerns in a professional, organized, and child-centered manner. Depending on the service requested, the process may include interviews, meetings, observation, mediation sessions, documentation review, and ongoing communication with involved parties.
Initial Consultation & Intake
Services begin with a review of the referral concerns, court order (if applicable), service expectations, scheduling, and required paperwork. Clients may be asked to provide court documents, contact information for involved parties, parenting agreements, or other relevant records prior to services beginning.
Home Studies
Home studies typically involve interviews with parents or caregivers, a walkthrough of the home environment, and discussion regarding parenting practices, routines, supervision, and living arrangements. The evaluator may assess safety considerations, sleeping arrangements, accessibility of resources, and the overall appropriateness of the environment for the child.
Therapeutic Visitation
Therapeutic visitation services involve structured visits between a parent and child with professional observation and support throughout the interaction. Sessions may focus on communication, emotional connection, parenting skills, boundaries, and rebuilding or strengthening the parent-child relationship. Guidance, redirection, and therapeutic support may be provided during visits when appropriate.
Parenting Coordination
Parenting coordination services are designed to help parents reduce conflict, improve communication, and navigate ongoing co-parenting concerns. Sessions may include discussion of parenting schedules, transitions, decision-making, communication difficulties, and implementation of court-ordered parenting arrangements. Parents may meet jointly or separately depending on the needs of the case.
Family Mediation
Mediation sessions provide a neutral setting for families to work through disputes and develop mutually agreed-upon solutions. The mediator facilitates conversation, helps clarify concerns, and supports productive communication while remaining neutral throughout the process. The goal is to help families move toward workable agreements and reduce ongoing conflict.
Documentation & Communication
Depending on the referral, services may include written summaries, recommendations, progress updates, or formal reports. Communication with attorneys, guardians ad litem, providers, or the court may occur when authorized or required.
Court Involvement
Court appearances, testimony, and additional documentation may be provided when requested, subpoenaed, or required as part of the case.

Information gathered during services may be shared with the court, attorneys, or other authorized parties as required by the court order, referral agreement, or applicable legal and ethical obligations.
